Agriculture

The Union Territory of Chandigarh has a very limited area under cultivation, with the total agricultural land being around 912 Hectare. All the agricultural land in Chandigarh is fully irrigated. However, due to the urbanization of all villages, they now merged with the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh and the area under cultivation is steadily decreasing. As a result, agriculture in the UT is facing considerable constraints, leading to a gradual decline in agricultural holdings and farming activity. The primary occupation of farmers in the region is dairy farming, which necessitates the cultivation of fodder crops. A significant portion of the available land is, therefore, devoted to fodder production. Despite this, the current agricultural area is insufficient to meet the fodder requirements of the existing cattle population.

Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme: -

PM Kisan is a Central Sector Scheme with 100 percent Government of India funding and operated under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Income support of Rs. 6000 per annum is provided to all eligible farmers families in three equal instalments of Rs. 2000 every four months. The process of distribution of instalments initiated by the Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry opens the lots of an instalment on the portal for the verification by the field office. After verification, the office updates the status and closes the lots to produce Request Fund Transfer order to the Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture then generates Fund Transfer order for the transfer of funds in the accounts of beneficiaries. The Department only implements this Central Sector Scheme within the Chandigarh Administration and does not requisition or handle any funds directly.

Distribution of wheat seed on 50% discount:-
