INTRODUCTION

Printing & Stationery Department, Chandigarh caters to the demand of various departments in supplying the stationery articles and printing of various forms, registers. Its efficient functioning ensures the timely delivery of the job assigned to it. This department has various wings like Technical Wing, Accounts Wing, Administrative Wing, Stationery Stores, Publication Wing and is headed by the Controller, Printing & Stationery who works under the supervision and control of Secretary P&S.

HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT AT A GLANCE

The Printing press was set up in the year 1956, in 1956 a 72-room building which was handed over to Printing and Stationary Department of the UT Administration equipped with machines imported from Germany. The inception of the printing press was characterized by vigoures and vitality. In the early 70’s, 1,800 employees used to work to fulfill orders from various departments of the Chandigarh Administration and neighboring States including works from Government of India. The Administration takes a keen interest in department and ensure that all departments get their work done from the Government Printing Press.

  • Printing of State Functions invitation cards such as 15th August & 26th January.
  • Printing of ballot papers whole of Punjab State, Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation, Delhi.
  • Printing of bills, starred and un-starred question of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Secretariat Assembly.
  • BBMB print work of North Zone i.e. Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh and Delhi.

INITIATIVE OF THE DEPARTMENT

Online stationery purchase portal. For convenience of the departments of the Chandigarh Administration and for upgrading the supply of stationery methods, the Government Press, UT., Chandigarh took this significant step to start a portal in which the departments can view the responsibility of the various stationery items with the Press and can punch their requirement/order online without any manual order resulting into saving of time and paper. Further, steps have been taken to arrange the supply of printing and stationery material to the door steps of the department.

E-GAZETTEE

The department has taken an initiative of starting e-gazettee instead of manual printing which will save paper, labour as well as time. E-Gazettee will ensure the timely publication of notification of various kinds which, in turn, will save paper, public funds as well as time.

INFRASTRUCTURE UP-GRADATION

In order to make the working of the printing press competitive both the equipment and technology is being upgraded, which include introduction of Offset Machines, i.e. Single Color, Double Color and Four Color.

TRANSPARENT PROCUREMENT

The Printing & Stationery Department, Chandigarh has already adopted a Transparent Procurement System viz. Gem (Government e Market) for all its procurement. All the day to day procurement of goods and services are processed through GeM.

APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Department has taken a keen initiative to start Apprenticeship Training in Government Press to give opportunities to the Skilled Youth to gain the practical working experience in various activities related to printing process. The organization offers opportunity to youth in the trades such as Binding, Printing, Soft Skills & Data Entry Operator. The Apprenticeship is being processed through NCVT portal which is known for complete transparency in selection of the Candidates on Merit Basis.

RIGHT TO INFORMATION&CPGRAM

The Department is very conscious towards any kind of RTI & Public Grievance. The CP&S, ACFA has been designated as Central Public Information Officer (CPIO) for this Department. Further CP GRAM is a Government of India Portal where complaints can be lodged by general public. It is very closely monitored and a quick action is taken on the complaints with zero percent pendency.
