Introduction

The Fisheries Department in U.T. Chandigarh is functioning as a separate wing of Animal Husbandry Department. The supervisory work of the department is with the Joint Director, Animal Husbandry, who works under the control of Director, Fisheries.  The Special Secretary Finance has got additional charge of Director Fisheries. The Finance Secretary, Chandigarh Administration is the Secretary Fisheries.

A Fish Seed Farm has been established down below the regulator on the extreme end of Sukhna Lake near Kishangarh. The main aim of the department is to produce quality fish seed for keeping its stock in Sukhna Lake, Forest Dam and Village ponds. There are 27 small concrete ponds constructed at Fish Seed Farm.

The budget allocation for the current financial year 2009-10 in respect of Fisheries is as under:-         

         Plan        = Rs. 13.00 lakh
                 Non Plan      = Rs. 27.00 Lakh
